Fall Planting Follow Up

Several mosquito bites later, here are the results of my fall planting.
Now, it may not be all fancy schmancy like I have seen on some blogs, but it is mine and I love it.

Jane By Design Cancelled

Earlier this month, I opined about the cancellation of one of my favorite shows, The Sing Off.

Now, I hear that Jane By Design, a fun show on ABC Family has also been cancelled.
Am I at odds with the mainstream of television viewers that my favorite shows keep getting cancelled?

What gives?

Fall Planting

Alas fall, my favorite season.

I may have mentioned how this season above the other three is my favorite.

I will tolerate the mosquitoes (I have been bitten at least 100 times this year) one more time and do some fall planting.

Since I had great success with my first container plants which you can read about here, I have decided to try and plant some directly in the ground! What a concept.

I purchased some ornamental cabbage and mums and ornamental grass which I am so excited about.
What are you planting this fall?

Ps - Photo taken with my NEW IPAD!!

Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it,
and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth
seeking the successive autumns.

. . . even if sometimes I don't think it's so beautiful.

What to do with all of those Tomatoes?

What a crop of tomatoes we have had this summer!I have made everything from panzanella salad to slow-roasted tomatoes and yes, this delicious pasta dish.I simply added fresh basil, onions and capers and yes, all those tomatoes.

I will miss fresh tomatoes. Until next summer . . .

Musical Memory of September 11

What beautiful buildings the World Trade Center Towers were.

I worked for 12 years near the towers and spent lots of fun times there.

I remember long lunch hours (sorry boss!) listening to live jazz on the plaza between the towers.

I remember salsa dancing on Tuesday nights at Windows on the World.
I remember industry meetings on the 100th floor in a conference room overlooking the beautifully lit Statue of Liberty and thinking how special this moment was and how incredible a city New York is.I remember spending many a paycheck at Sephora, Express and many other of its shops.

I remember purchasing half-price Broadway tickets and airline tickets in the lobby.

I remember the veryyyy fast elevators and my ears popping.

I remember kissing a cute boy or two after several happy hours at one of the bars in the World Financial Center.

I remember the sound of my heels on the floor as I rushed for the PATH train to New Jersey heading down the shore to our summer rental or for subways uptown, heading home.I remember the 100th floor where I went for several interviews shortly before 9.11 and not getting the job and thanking God that I didn't because many, many people died from that company.

But it is a musical memory of the World Trade Center that I will never forget.

On one of the last times I walked into the towers, during a bustling-as-always rush hour return home, I came across some street musicians at the entrance to one of the towers.

They were playing Superstition by Stevie Wonder and I remember thinking what a great rendition it was.

I have not listened to that song since then. Anytime I hear it on the radio, I switch the station. I just can't listen to it.

I will never forget the close to 3,000 people murdered on September 11.

However, I also grieve for the buildings too. Seems a bit odd to miss a building but the towers were a beautiful place to work and have fun and I will never forget the many crazy, happy memories I had there.

Never, ever forget.

Ahh . . . Fall. My Favorite Season.

While I love summer and plan on making a few more trips to the beach before it gets too cool, I wait for Autumn with such anticipation and pure joy.

It is my favorite season.

The smells, the colors, the brisk air. I can never get enough of this fleeting season.

I feel as if I am always chasing the foliage. I research on the web where local areas are at almost-peak or peak foliage and I try to head there to soak up the beauty.

It never lasts long enough.

NBC Cancels The Sing Off and I am Po'd!

Why is it that the good television shows get canceled?

My younger niece just informed me that my favorite show of the last three years, The Sing Off, was canceled. I am so pissed.

It was a singing competition show unlike all the other crap on tv.

This show was so beautiful. Young people (mostly from college singing groups) singing as one, a capella without all that fancy autotune stuff that the likes of Britney Spears and Madonna need. Great judges that actually knew their craft. Nick Lachey did a great job as host.

Hopefully NBC will change their mind. But they don't appear to be such a great channel so I doubt it.

Until then, thank god for You Tube where I can continue to view such great performances as these . . .
