I am No Longer a Craigslist Virgin plus a Filing Cabinet

I have never purchased or sold anything on Craigslist.

I have read so many blog posts about people's success stories in dealing with Craigslist. My good friend Marie has been quite successful selling a car, a front door and various other items.

But I have always been a bit weary.

I have been looking through Craigslist for a few months looking for a filing cabinet.

So, when what appeared to be the perfect filing cabinet appeared on Craigslist near where Marie lives, I knew she was the perfect person to accompany me on my mission. We made a day of it by starting with a nice lunch and drink.

Here is the photo that was on Craigslist. After coordinating via email and text with the seller, we set up a time to meet.

We pulled up and she was waiting in her car in her driveway. We exchanged pleasantries and went into the house where her mother-in-law was watching her children. I took a look at it as she told me she was selling a lot of items because her husband received a new job out of state.

I handed her the money and left with a fabulous filing cabinet for my new home office.

A Craigslist success story! The seller was very nice and I couldn't be happier with my purchase.

I am looking forward to maybe purchasing more items on Craigslist but I would love to sell some things too.

Have any of you had an experience selling/buying on Craigslist? How did it turn out?

I've had luck selling a few things, always met the folks in daylight at a Burger King (or other store) parking lot, NEVER at my home. My biggest complaint is tons of spam when I post things. Glad you found a filing cabinet you like:@)

Well, I am a Craig's List virgin, too. I need to start checking this out..although I don't know how active it is in our area...but my son buys/sells on it, too. Good job and great find! xo Diana

I've used Craigslist with much success. Having sold a mattress and box springs, picture frames, scarfs etc. I've even posted and sold for my girlfriend and didn't have any problems. Some will try to see if you will take less before they even see it providing they like what they see and some will wait until they see it to ask if you will take less. The only thing I don't like is that some people will say they are interested in something but it is a ruse to get you to join some company that does surveys etc. You can usually tell by the way the e-mail is worded because it is only a short sentence of something like "I'm interested in so and so" and nothing else...not is it still available or anything. Other than that I haven't had a problem.

Glad your experience was a good one! Sometimes one person's bad experience will be enough to keep people from even trying something.

I have, Carmie, and I have always had a good experience. I only bought when I got here to Ohio and got my dresser for the master bedroom. I sold two chairs before we even thought about moving, which allowed me to buy my black and white chair for my living room from Pier 1. Then when we were getting ready to move I sold our pool table, roll top desk, computer armoire and the pool table light. They all had to go and you might as well make some money if you can! So, I'm by no means a long time Craigs List seller or buyer, but as long as you are smart about it, you should have good experiences with it.

I sold a car on craigslist. It was old and it wasn't worth a lot of money. In two hours I had 3 offers. Sold it for cash that day (and it was a holiday weekend).

Although I tried to not be, I am still a Craigslist virgin. I posted a few things but even when people called, asked questions and said they were coming to see the item, they never showed up. The furniture I have looked at to buy on Craigslist is overpriced in my area I super bargains like I see other bloggers getting.
