Blogging Rut

Have you ever gotten into one of those ruts where nothing is inspiring you enough to blog about it?

Well, I am in one.

I am sure that I will get out of it. But until then, the witch is in.

Good Riddance Jill Zarin and Crazy Kelly

So thrilled that Bravo is axing those crazy NYC Housewives nutjobs, Jill Zarin and Kelly I-Married-A-Rich-Photographer-and-Now-I-Am-Crazy Bensimon.

They were so insecure and obnoxious and an embarrassment to women everywhere.

Time to get a real job now!

Bravo Bravo!

Dream Man Kyle Chandler Wins Emmy

I blogged in this post about how I thought Scott McGillivray of HGTV's Income Property and All-American Handyman was this Single Nester's ideal dream man.

Well, it is time to tell you about another guy I have thought of us dreamy since I first saw him in Homefront many years ago - Kyle Chandler.I was thrilled that he was finally recognized for his work on Friday Night Lights (a terrific show and sad to see it go) with an Emmy for best actor in a drama.

Just so scrumptious.

The Beginnings of a Guest Room Makeover

Well, not quite yet.

I am the kind of person who sits with a project for a while.

I think. I dream. I research.

And, after being inspired by so many great bloggers who paint and sand and makeover rooms with great thrift, I decided to tackle my guest bedroom and make it into a real home office.

Inspiration is everywhere.I began by removing the bed that was in the guest room.

Every office needs bookshelves and I had old bookshelves in the garage that will serve the purpose.

Over the weekend, I cleaned every piece with a damp old t-shirt and then sanded the pieces and then cleaned them again.I am going with a glossy white so my next step is to paint them, after purchasing said paint of course.

Let's hope I get this done before the first snowfall :)

A Final Farewell to Borders

Yesterday, Borders closed the last of its stores.

I couldn't help but think of the movie "You've Got Mail," where the big box store is taking over all of the little independent booksellers. Borders was that big box store.

It was so sad to see the place wiped out.

After making two or more, I honestly can't remember, trips to Borders, I came away with the following goodies for really great prices.

First up, I had never heard of Taste of Home and I was really impressed with this cookbook/magazine.Nothing like a book about Paris, a map of Paris and some cookbooks for a beverage (or 2).Every year for Christmas, I give my dad a calendar of Italy so why not get it early at 70% off!Something to give me some ideas for future projects (provided I win Lotto). And how about some really interesting reads.Have you read any of these books?

Well Borders, so sad to see you go but thank you for the great reads!

Missoni Fashion Frenzy at Target

I am not a fan of Missoni's style in general. There are other Italian designers that I like.

But. I was curious to see what all the fuss was about with their new line for Target. So, I went to Target on Tuesday, the day the lower-priced Missoni line was to debut. I arrived at 9am and the store was decimated. Not much of anything was left.

I did see a few women with fully loaded shopping carts. It was dumbfounding to me.

I heard that eBay has been swarmed with Missoni for Target goods. Wow.

Not sad that I missed out on the goods. Not sad at all.

What about you? Did you buy anything?

Birch Box Disappointment

After reading on a fellow blogger's site about the Birch Box, a company that sends sample beauty products each month for a monthly fee, and after viewing the wonderful products she received, I signed up.

For $10/month, I figured let's give this a try.

My first Birch Box arrived yesterday. And this is the crap stuff I received.I could not believe my eyes when I saw what the Birch Box contained.

Zebra print press-on nail decales (what am I, 12?), a cheesy string bracelet celebrating their 1 year anniversary, minscule size samples of I don't know what since I was so infuriated to look thinking that I had just wasted $10, a sample perfume vial that I could get at my local department store, and some powder foundation.

I immediately canceled my membership. What a waste?

Has anyone else had experience with the Birch Box?

September Signifies a Fresh Start

There is something about September that I love.

First, autumn is my absolute favorite of all seasons.

But there is also a feeling of a fresh start. Turning over a new leaf. Getting a bit cozy at home and nesting.

So, out with the summer wreath and in with the fall wreath.I certainly can't wait to go get me some of these . . .And while I am at it, I hope to see some of this - a lot of this!image

We Remember . . .

That is the number of people who were murdered on September 11, 2001. Not 3,000. Not about 3,000.

Let's get the number straight because every single person counts.

Cookbook Review - Mango Smoothie

Yes, summer is coming to a quick end and in my humble opinion, fall, my favorite season, never lasts long enough.

But I digress.

Picking up with my Cookbook Challenge where I humbly attempt to make a recipe from my vast collection of cookbooks and blog about it every Wednesday, I decided to make a beverage - a smoothie to be exact.

While on one of my many forays to Border's during their "Going out of Business" sale, I picked up the following book for $1.99 - Cool Smoothies - Fast, Fun, Frozen Treats.I love mangoes so I chose this recipe - Monkey Mango Smoothie.Ingredients:Finished product:Easy to make and very frothy, it was just okay. Maybe it needed some alcohol or something :)

But, I look forward to making other concoctions from this book.
