JoAnn's Bargain Fabrics

I haven't touched a sewing machine since a very bad experience in 8th grade (a long time ago).

I hit the peddle of the sewing machine like a NASCAR driver and proceeded to turn my skirt into shorts. Not pretty.

I would love to learn how to sew. My grandmother was a master seamstress but for some reason, that is not one gene I inherited. I do however, have her old-fashioned sewing machine.

I recently found these fabrics at JoAnn's in their bargain section. Each were from $1-3/yard! Aren't they fabulous?I think I did a fairly good job matching fabrics. I am hoping to create something with them. Pillows most likely.

Is there a way to do this without a sewing machine?

Fun fabrics and great price! I do some sewing, and think pillow covers would be a nice easy project to try. I did Google "no sew pillow covers", quite a few things popped up. Have fun:@)

A friend of mine made some "no-sew" pillow covers to recover some throw pillows on her couch. She used an iron on tape-type product. Hope you make something fabulous with your cute fabric!

Thanks for stopping by my blog, it's always fun to see new faces. :-)

You should give sewing another try! You are talented and could make TONS of things for your home with just simple straight turqoise pillows. Sewing gives your so much freedom in picking your own fabrics, etc. If you want to give sewing another shot, here are some inexpensive choices

The iron on tape mentioned by a previous commenter would work. Also, there are glue adhesives at craft stores that would work well (I know of one that would probably not bleed through the fabric but my brain fails me at this moment. I will come back when I think of it.) I love, love, love looking at and buying fabrics. I have a sewing machine and a general idea of how to use it, but not enough time to get good at using it.

My story's very similar, except it happened in 7th grade for me and both of my grandmothers could have been professional seamstresses. I can handstitch up a storm, but using a machine is such effort! Yes, I vote for pillows!

You got some good suggestions, Carmie. I'm curious to see what you do with them. You did do really good matching them up!

Too funny about the shorts! Yes, good job with the fabrics and what a bargain. I have been debating about whether to buy a sewing machine and try my hand at it. Good luck with it.
