Cookbook Challenge

I love to cook.

I really do.

I collect cookbooks and read them as if they were novels; one delicious page at a time.

So, after being inspired by a Canadian cooking show that now appears on OWN, Anna and Kristina's Grocery Bag, where the hosts cook from and review a different cookbook each episode, I decided that I should start cooking.

Rather than just look at these cookbooks (and occassionally dust them :), I should actually start to use them.

Beginning next week, I will dust off one of my cookbooks, cook a recipe and share it with you.

Stay tuned to see what is in The Single Nester Grocery Bag.

Do you utilize all of your cookbooks?

Hi! I just discovered your blog through Follow Friday 40 and I really enjoy it. As another "single nester," I'm looking forward to following! I'm a terrible cook but maybe I will learn something from your recipes. ;)

I have a only couple of cookbooks and use them quite often actually..., and still many more new recipes to try!

I have a ton of cookbooks, too and wish I did more than just read them!! It's a matter of choosing the recipe and then buying the ingredients and I am bad with lists! So, I admire you for doing this and you have lit a fire under me to start looking at my cookbooks again!

I too am trying to do at least one new recipe a week. I get most from online sites now so I don't own a lot of cookbooks.

I've been wanting to do something like that because I'm always cooking the same meals. Good luck with your challenge!

Really Carmie, Stop :-) How do you know my worst, most challenging of vices? I have three boxes of cookbooks in the very back of my bedroom closet. They've been there for about 10 years. I just bought another really cute Kid's Party cookbook. It's so cute, I had to have it. I love looking at the pictures and really, I've only used recipes out of a handful of my books. I come from a family of really good cooks who also don't use recipes...Mom cooks by feel; Does it feel right? Nana, by memory; That's how her mother did it. Dad by sight; It looks right. And Mother in Law cooks by smell; It smells right. Really? How is macaroni and cheese supposed to smell? I have no such intuition. I cook by trial and error...sometimes more error.

Send me your address and I'll send you the books. I'll have to open them up first though...to check for scorpions. We've found 8 in the house since last January.

Maybe I need a sign next time I'm in the bookstore..."Think before you buy." Hubs suggested I have a custom t-shirt made.

I am the same way with my cookbooks. I love to just sit and sift through them.

Oh, I love that idea - thank you for sharing the recipes! I will be standing by with pencil/recipe cards in hand! (Ok, so it will just be my laptop and the whole cut/paste action, but that doesnt sound as cute) ;)

I have 20ish cookbooks, all of which I use. My favourite at the moment is a winter recipe collection, full of nice stews and soups!

What a great idea! I tend to impulse buy cook books then forget about them, there are so many good recipes on the web that I find myself using them instead, maybe I will follow your lead and try to utilize my cookbooks, I bet there are lots of tasty recipes lurking in those pages! Have a beautiful weekend!

I have some I've never used. And about four or five "go to" books.

I love cookbooks, too! My favorites are the old OLD cookbooks. I also want to try to cook one new recipe a week.
