Gold and Health Care Insurance

Hmmm. What do gold and health care insurance have in common?

Well, my friend Marie had a cocktail party and at the party was a mother/daughter team buying gold. I had heard about this practice and just needed the right opportunity to unload some items.

I looked through my stash and selected 12 pieces. Now, I was into gold several years ago but not any more. I now prefer colorful chunky costume jewelery.

I had some receipts for my purchases and went in with a figure of what I would accept and a notepad listing my items and prices.

So, I packed up my stash.
And - wait for it.

I came away with $1,050.00 !! Yeah for me. Health care insurance baby! These pieces were just sitting there for years, not being worn.

And to think I left several items behind.

I need to go to another one of these parties!

I'm so scared of those parties because I am so uneducated about what the gold is worth that I'm scared I'm going to be ripped off. How did you assess the value of what you brought?

Well I had some receipts so I knew how much I had paid for items. Gold is about $1243 for an ounce. I don't know how that calculates to grams but if you have one of those diet scales, you could weigh it and then convert. Now, I am sure I did not get what gold is worth because they take some off the top for their fee and what they give the host. But, I am happy with the outcome. Some items were 18K and from relatives in Italy and I just never liked the pieces. An educated consumer is the best kind of consumer.

Woo hoo!! It's always nice to get some cash for stuff we aren't using anymore. Thanks for stopping by my blog & leaving me a comment on my thrifty finds last week.

Wow! Sweet deal! I always figured those cash-for-gold things were all scams. I guess not!

Hi Carmie-
I am reading thru your posts and was astounded that you made that much cash selling your gold. I was thinking you were going to say that they only offered you a little- what a great return for your investment that would still be sitting unused in your jewelry box.

I did that several years ago and it paid for a girl trip to Jamaica...congrats!
